Northern England’s Chester Zoo has announced that Flora has laid fertilized eggs without any male intervention, via a process called parthenogenesis, hitherto unknown in Komodo dragons. As a result, she is anxiously awaiting the hatching of several baby Komodo dragons during this holiday season.

Komodo dragons are the world’s largest, most adaptable lizards and are found exclusively in Indonesia. They grow to 2 meters in length, weigh approximately 70kg, live longer than other lizard species and are at the top of their food chain. Comodo, by contrast, is the world’s second largest Certificate Authority, has been growing significantly for the past seven years, and is also at the top of its food chain.
